“Flops?!” dare, fail, innovate” at MuAM

An exhibition which presents, among other things, Carelman objects “in real life”.

In 2017, every Saturday, Jérémie Garry, a versatile builder, invited beginners and experienced DIY enthusiasts to set up shop in his “Bricol'art” construction workshop.
Workshop conducted at Ensad Limoges and at the Théâtre de la Mégisserie, a conventioned stage in Saint-Junien and its school for the curious.

Based on several case studies, the exhibition Flops?! is interested in the causes of failure, in different technical sectors (transport, telecommunications, mechanics, etc.) or sometimes a little less technical (games and toys, graphic communication, psychological bias, etc.). It questions the engineer, the designer, the salesperson, the advertiser but also the user to dissect the mechanisms of failure and better understand what went wrong!
And because some flops ultimately turn out to be tops, the exhibition explores unexpected success trajectories: that of a good idea that was too ahead of its time, of a still immature technology, or of an object that has seen its use diverted...

In short, far from making fun of failures, Flops?! offers a benevolent reading and highlights the need to dare and fail, in order to finally innovate.

Different Routes reveals the exhibition:

Part 1: Oops!
Part 2: How to Fix a Failure
Part 3: The reasons for the struggle
Part 4: Better to fail to innovate

But also "The flops of the permanent collections" of the Museum of Arts and Crafts and "The uncomfortable objects of Katerina Kamprani".

Exhibition project managers: Marjolaine Schuch and Jean-Baptiste Taisne

An exhibition after Flops! When design gets tangled up, presented at the Cité du design in Saint-Étienne in 2021.
