Karina Ticona Nava

Holder of a DNSEP art option, obtained in 2024 at Ensad Limoges

Leaving Bolivia, Karina experienced a moment of self-reflection and rediscovery. This experience allowed her to look at her culture differently, thus transforming her art. She realized that beauty had a different meaning for her. This retrospective into the world of supernatural stories, traditions, and legends reconnected her with her roots and allowed her to explore new avenues in her artistic expression.
Karina conceives her sculptures as living entities, grafted into our world, creating a dialogue where they coexist, influence, and enrich one another. Using an organic vocabulary inspired by her natural environment, she creates a universe populated by strange characters and unusual body forms, inviting the viewer to explore the symbiosis of two worlds. In her sculptures, she primarily uses clay and porcelain, reflecting fragility and resilience. Her work expresses an interest in the macabre and strange beauty, creating a duality between attraction and repulsion. Her artistic practice becomes a dialogue between her heritage, the feeling of her culture, and her discoveries, aiming to enrich the perception of art and invite reflection on the nuances of the human condition.
