Till Pastout-Cluzeau
Holder of a DNSEP art option with congratulations from the jury, obtained in 2024 at Ensad Limoges
Till is a sculptor. His work oscillates between documenting pre-existing forms and executing production methods derived from craftsmanship. His latest research has led him toward a typology of so-called defensive forms, including an apotropaic statuette, ancient helmets, a round shield, and fortified remains. Shaping objects from this typology allows him to question the dialectic of offensive and defensive systems, a pattern that is omnipresent in history, rhetoric, team sports, and relational sociology. Sculpture then becomes the medium of choice for giving substance to this strategic issue. This often occurs through principles specific to the sculptural regime, such as Wim Delvoye's intersection of registers or Vincent Mauger's materialization of virtual spaces. Stanley Kubrick's cinema can also be cited as a source of inspiration, particularly in his way of depicting an agonistic world, a vast chessboard where antagonistic forces interact. Although theoretical in nature, Till's approach is embodied above all in formal research and a technical approach to praxis.
